Adventure Caving

Try an adventure caving tour at Naracoorte Caves and explore that little bit more of our fascinating underground environment.

Our tours range from novice to extended. There’s bound to be one that suits your interests and physical abilities. Tours are run by highly experienced guides and we have stringent safety precautions in place.

You’ll have training in safe caving techniques before you set out, and we’ll also provide helmets, headlights, overalls and knee pads.

Each of our caves is of horizontal development with little climbing and no rope work involved.

Bookings are required. Group number and age restrictions apply. Before visiting the caves you should read our adventure caving protocols.

Novice caving tours

Stick-Tomato Cave

(Beyond public access section)

Stick-Tomato Cave is a great introduction to adventure caving. This cave is dry and there is no running or standing water. The tour requires some walking and crawling through an unlit cave. There are some fun squeezes and challenges for those who wish to try – but they are optional.

Duration: 90 minutes

Bookings are essential.

Concession (on presentation of valid card*)$54
Child (min age 8)$39.00

Advanced caving tours

  • Prerequisites: a tour of either the Blackberry or Stick-Tomato Cave.
  • Ideal for: families and groups with a good level of fitness.
  • Age restrictions: 12 years and over.
  • Tours may be subject to staff availability.

Starburst Chamber

This longer tour visits the Starburst Chamber and other spectacular parts of the Victoria Fossil Cave not accessible to the general public. The crawl into the chamber is considerable and a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Fox Cave

Fox Cave is in a relatively natural state and can only be accessed by 4WD. After squeezing through a tight entrance, you’ll come across high-ceilinged chambers, wide passages, low crawls and some exquisitely decorated areas. This cave is a bat wintering site, so you may see hibernating groups clinging to the ceiling. Fox Cave also contains some fascinating fossil deposits and sand cones.

Duration: 3 hours

Bookings are essential.
