All facilities and cave tours will be unavailable on Sunday 4 August 2024 from approximately 8am until 3:30pm while SA Power Networks complete work in the area. The park itself will still be accessible, allowing visitors to use picnic tables and walking trails.

Geology learning program

Alexandra Cave is full of spectacular cave decorations, with every type of cave formation (or speleothem) to be found.

In the geology program, students will learn about the geology of the region and how the caves were formed. This is all explained in simple, easy to understand terms, tailored to the age and learning capabilities of the students.

The processes of speleothem (stalactite and stalagmite) growth are explained and students have a rare chance to touch a piece of stalagmite. This cave is a fine introduction to caves and their natural processes.

Concepts

Geological time, speleogenisis (the formation of caves), conservation
